Posidonia Festival has been held in 18 unforgettable editions among Majorca, Formentera, Carloforte, Tavolara, Sitges, Santa Margherita Ligure. In alignment with its core objectives, the festival has contributed to achieve a great ecological awareness in all these places, and to get also protecting actions such as the specific legislation to defend Posidonia oceanica ecosystem approved by the Balearic Islands local Government.
Born in 2008 on the island of Formentera (Spain, Balearic Islands) where is held up to 2010, from 2011 to 2015 is celebrated in Carloforte (Italy, Sardinia) with activities also in Tavolara Island (Sardinia). From 2012 to 2015 have been made editions in Carloforte and in Sitges (Barcelona, Spain). From 2016 it settles in Majorca (Spain), particularly in Deià (in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana) and in Palma de Mallorca (the capital of the Balearic Islands), where the Festival Posidonia Mallorca, International Festival of Art, Nature and Sustainable Tourism, also includes the Posidonia Forum which specificly contributed to the development of the new specific legislation approved in 2018 to protect the Posidonia oceanica (seagrass) in the Balearic Islands Government (first case in Europe).
The Posidonia oceanica meadows between Ibizia y Formentera were, and are, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
